City of Sydney’s hallmark public celebrations, including Lunar New Year, Australia Day, and New Year’s Eve, attract large, diverse crowds and span multiple high- traffic sites across the city. These events require carefully coordinated staffing to support crowd flow, cultural programming, public announcements, and accessible guest experiences.

 

Our Role - Volunteer Program Delivery:

Over recent years, Casual Hands has supplied scalable, high-performing teams across the City of Sydney’s event portfolio, adapting to changing conditions while maintaining consistent service standards. We provided end-to-end event staffing across multiple roles including customer service, ushering, crowd control, and site operations. Our support has included:

  • Bump-in and bump-out support
  • Announcers to engage and inform crowds
  • Supervisors to oversee and coordinate staff teams
  • Bilingual and multilingual staff to support culturally diverse communities
  • Specialised staff trained to assist people with disabilities and accessibility needs

Key Achievements:

  • Deployed 150+ staff (wayfinding, customer service, ticket scanning) across multiple CBD sites for Sydney New Year’s Eve, including Supervisors and Event Control Centre Managers.
  • Provided specialised accessibility roles, including buggy (mobility) drivers and quiet-room assistants to support inclusive event delivery.
  • Consistently supplied an average of 25+ staff per event across multiple roles and locations, scaling quickly to meet operational needs.
